Hope Mills - Perfect running conditions made for a record setting night at South View on Saturday night as the Tiger Men ran strong to victory in the championship race against a powerful Dorman (S.C.) squad. A banged-up ladies squad stepped up and took second place in the women's championship.

The men's championship race featured an exciting rematch between Dorman High School out of South Carolina and South View. These two teams had already hooked-up once in the two mile scrimmage race at ASU during camp this summer. Dorman won that match-up. On Saturday night South View looked strong on the flat grassy athletic fields of their home course in ideal running conditions. The Tigers won the men's race by placing 5 runners in the top 11. Dorman was second, also placing 5 in the top 11. Robert Longoria of South View won the race individually with a time of 15:48.37, a new school record. Josh Wyatt (3rd), Jason Williams (5th), Paul Longoria (7th) and Johnathan Isom (11th) rounded out the Tiger top 5. With four runners under 17, the Tigers have to feel good about UNCW next weekend. Jesse Ramirez also turned in a strong performance at 13th place. Ryan Goetsch (23rd) was the final Tiger in the championship race.

Hoggard High School dominated the women's race. South View was a distant second. Summer Graham of Princeton High School won the women's championship race with a time of 19:49.05. South View's Amber Youngvall was 2nd overall. Whitney Speicher (6th), Dawn Mc Millan (13th), Jennifer Galloway (21st) and Laura Mumau (23rd) rounded out the Lady Tiger top 5. Ashley Baldridge (40th) and Jamie Wheeler (45th) were the remaining Tigers in the Championship race. Although the Ladies were without All Conference runner Rachel Burns and All County runner Whitney Allen, they showed their depth with younger runners stepping up to put the Tigers near the top.

In the developmental races Josh Blanc set the tone by winning the men's race with a time of 17:49.39. Brian Mc Lean began his return with a 5th place overall finish. Tyler Strickland (10th), Shane Messer (13th) and Steven Nunns (14th) rounded out the Tiger top 5. In the women's race the Lady Tiger top 4 of Heather Van Dusen (4th overall), Morgan Schultingkemper (7th), Krystal Patton (15th) and Megan Schultingkemper (16th) ran an exciting pack race from the back early in the race to the front in the end. Keri Palma rounded out the Lady Tiger top 5. Dorman's men and Hoggard women won the developmental team races. South View finished second in both.

The runners and spectators loved this night-time event and several have already pledged to return next year, as this figures to become an annual Labor Day weekend event.

The course was 4980 meters long. Temperature was low 70s early dropping into the high 60s later in the evening. There was a light drizzle most of the night.
