Wildcat Invitational Rescheduled

The Wildcat Invitational originally supposed to be held Saturday, Sept. 18 at East Chapel Hill High School has been rescheduled for October 9. Additional teams may still enter by October 4.

Hornet Invitational Rescheduled

The 2nd Annual Hornet Invitational has been postponed due to severe damage to the cross country trail at Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury. The meet Will be rescheduled for October 9th.

2004 Freedom Invitational Rescheduled

Unfortunately the Freedom Invitational is now re-scheduled for Oct. 9th

I have gone to great pains to get the course ready and it is; but this afternoon I talked with emergency management and they are preparing for a rough weekend and plan to call a state of emergency for this county. You have to see the Catawba River to believe it, it is almost full now and the lake is full and there is nowhere to put even a couple inches of rain. Conservative estimates are 5-10 inches for this weekend. (most say double digit amounts) Western Carolina University has cancelled classes for Thursday and Friday. There are also possible tornado watches which wouldn't be good for travel.

I always want to put on a quality meet and I feel that is impossible this weekend. The other reason for an Invitational is that it is a fund raising time, and at best this weekend wouldn't allow for much more than dashing off the bus and scrambling thru an adventure run and getting back out of the weather. (which would cut out T shirt and concession sells) I know we are going to lose some teams, but we may pick up a few. I know Oct. 9th is an SAT test date, but I have 50 people on my team and only 4 are affected, so maybe this will work. Since this meet started in '89 this is the first time this has happened.

Thanks for understanding and I hope the impending flooding spares us. Fortunately we drain well!

COACHES: I will need you to contact me by email if you wish to withdraw from the meet or to stay in, If your roster changes I will need those 1 week before the meet. Any checks that have been mailed to me will be held until meet time or returned if you withdraw.

I have sent an email to head coaches , asking if Oct. 9th would work as a back-up date.

So far 7 can 5 can't. If you are signed up for meet and did not get my email please send me whether or not you could come on Oct. 9th.: rford@burke.k12.nc.us

Caldwell County Invitational Cancelled
The 12th Annual Caldwell County Invitational scheduled for Sept 7th in Lenoir, NC was cancelled for this year. The course sustained major damage.

Minor damage was reported at the McAlpine Park course in Charlotte. The course is expected to be back in good shape for the Wendy's Invitational.
