Morganton - Watauga won the team competition in the boys' and girls' divisions, and the individual winners set course records in the Western Regional of the state cross-country championships yesterday at Freedom High. Watauga won the boys' competition with a score of 96. Enka finished second with 115, followed by T.C. Roberson with 143. Watauga's Mike Clinebell won the individual competition, running the 3.1-mile course in 15 minutes, 52 seconds. He clipped the course record by 6 seconds. Watauga won the girls' competition with a score of 29. T.C. Roberson was second with 65, followed by Hickory with 91. Francine Dumas of T.C. Roberson was the individual winner, finishing in 19:27 and breaking the old mark of 19:44. The top three teams in each division, along with the top five finishers not associated with those teams, will advance to the state finals in Charlotte on November 16. |
