North Forsyth's boys won the team title without winning a single running event before the 4x400. The Vikings, with Scott Brent as coach, were only 5th after the first day.

The girls competition was dominated by West Forsyth, coached by Penny Craver. West's Jerry Woods, a freshman, was the only girl to win two events.

Seven meet records were broken during the 1987 meet.

Freshman Julius Reese of Mt Tabor set two new meet records during Wednesday's qualifying: 21.34 in the 200m, and 48.59 in the 400m. Reese smashed the 400m record again in the final, with a 47.88.
