Notes: The top four finishers in each event qualified for the following week's state championships. Morganton Freedom's boys narrowly won the Regional title, edging Charlotte Garinger by 1/2 point. Garinger junior Rory Maxwell, who was in his first year running hurdles, won the 110mHH in 14.33, despite a pulled groin muscle. That injury forced Maxwell our of the 4x100 and 4x200, but Garinger still qualified in both events. Charlotte Olympic's Jerome McClure had been undefeated in the 100m for the year, but false-started, with teammate Steve Williamson (second to McClure in the previous week's Sectional) going on for the win. Kannapolis A.L. Brown's Melissa Morrison went on to win two Olympic Silver Medals in the 100m Hurdles.
