This was the third year of the NCHSAA State Indoor Meet.

Voted MVPs were A.J. McDonald (Richmond County) and Monica Kockaday (Durham Hillside). McDonald won the 60-yd and 300-yd dashes and anchored Richmond County's state-meet record-setting mile relay (3.29.83) -- which was an excellent time on UNC's old 10-lap-to- the-mile board track. Kockaday had second-place finishes in the 300y, 600y, and 1000y events.
