Watauga's Ricky Brookshire wins in 15:05.9.

North Mecklenburg's Jeff Gosslin and Mount Tabor's Matt Debole battle
for third place. Gosslin edged Debole 15:49.3 to 15:49.9. Gosslin is a sophomore and
Debole is a 9th grader.

Ryan Toler of West Carteret placed 5th in 15:55.

Watauga's Jason Klutz finishes 7th in 16:04. Klutz is a junior.

1999 4-A State Champions: Watauga. They beat North Mecklenburg 64 to 71, followed by
Chapel Hill with 111. Watauga also captured state championships in 1994 and 1996. They return
their number 2, 4, 6, and 7 runners next year.

State runner-up North Mecklenburg placed three in the top ten. They return
all of their top 7 in 2000. North's number 2 - 3 - 4 and 5 runners are all sophomores.
