Yeldell was named the Most Valuable Performer at the 1998 NCHSAA Indoor Championships.

He also jumped in another indoor meet as a senior 24-7, very close to the best-ever indoor Long Jump ever by an NC high schooler. That mark was 5th in the nation (indoors or outdoors) for 1998. (Note: NC actually had 3 of the top 9 long jumpers in the nation for 1998.)

Also that season Yeldell had a 52-2.75 TJ -- the 2nd best ever indoors by a U.S. high school athlete at the time.

Outdoors, Yeldell broke a 9-year-old National High School Record with a Triple Jump of 53-11 1/4 to capture the bronze medal at the 1998 World Junior Outdoor Championships. His performance led the nation by over 2 feet and his National Record lasted until 2004.

He won the TJ at the following meets as a senior:
Simplott Indoor Games in Pocatello, Idaho
National Scholastics Indoor Championships
National Scholastics Outdoor Championships
Golden West Outdoor meet in California (6/13)
USATF Outdoor Junior Nationals

He also was the 1997 and 1998 Gatorade Track & Field Winner for North Carolina.

Yeldell was named 1998 High School Athlete of the Year by Track & Field News.

He became the first T&FN HS Athlete of The Year from NC since Greg Artis in 1977. Artis went to Wilson Fike HS and was a 3-time state champion, winning the triple twice in 1976 (48-6) and 1977 (51-5.5) and the long jump in 1977 (24-8).

In January 2019 Yeldell was inducted into the inaugural class of the North Carolina High School Track & Field/Cross Country Hall of Fame.
