In October of her senior year at Hoke County High, McMillan competed in the
1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City. McMillan won the bronze medal in the
Long Jump, with a jump of 6.49A meters (21-3.5). The 'A' indicates the performance was at altitude. (Mexico City's elevation is
7546'/2300m above sea level.)

"She is the most fierce competitor I have ever coached," stated Temple, who
passed away at 89 years old in 2016. "She thrives on pressure. The greater it
is, the better she is. I have never seen an athlete with more determination."

This photo was with an article on U.S. athletes competing in the Spartacade
Games in Moscow in July of 1979. In her first 3 jumps in the long jump McMillan had 3 subpar jumps and did not advance to the finals. (19-10.5 best). Earlier that
year she had won at the U.S. National Championships and at the
Pan American Games in San Juan,
