The University of Oregon's Steve Prefontaine, with
his coach Bill Dellinger. Dellinger won a Bronze Medal in the
5000m at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo.
Pre placed 4th in the Munich Olympic 5000 the following summer
at 21. Dellinger has stated that Prefontaine's relative inexperience,
combined with frustration over the Israeli tragedy and the
ensuing one-day delay cost him a medal.
