Alan Webb (South Lakes HS, Reston, VA) leads after one mile.
Webb won by over eleven seconds with a 14:59.1.


#2368 Seth Pilkington (Roy, Utah) placed second with a 15:10.6.
#2369 (in red) is the 7th place finisher, Andrew Ice (Ferris, Washington) who ran 15:20.5.
Last spring Pilkington ran 9:10.2c for 2-miles, and Ice ran a 4:15.77 1600 and 9:14.71c.


Mountain View, Utah seniors Chandler Goodwin (#95) and Dustin Bybee (#93)
finished 4th and 5th to lead their school to the title.
Behind is 4:10 miler John Jefferson of Atlantic, Florida (#1097) who was 3rd in 15:15.6.
Mountain View has been ranked in the top 5 nationally for 7 years in a row,
and were ranked 2nd in '99.


Sophomore Bobby Curtis from St. Xavier, Kentucky (#2373) and
North Mecklenburg's Stephen Haas (#262). Curtis was 12th (15:37.1) with Haas 13th (15:39.2).
Curtis ran 4:18 and 9:21 last spring as a 9th grader.


North Mecklenburg junior Jeff Gosselin ran 16:01.6 for 27th place,
in helping his team to a surprising 3rd-place finish.


In the center of the Great American Festival's awards table are the two Bowerman trophies that
are awarded to the teams winning the Boys and Girls Race of Champions. The trophy is named
for the late Oregon coach, Bill Bowerman, who coached Steve Prefontaine, among other great runners.
