2011 NCHSAA Winter Track State Championships (2/12):
T&F teams brace for chilly championship meet - Times-News Posted November 2, 2010: This was on the latest NCHSAA Weekly News Release: "The 2011 Indoor Track Championships will be conducted this year as a "polar bear" meet. The date will remain the same, times, format, and site are TBD." Source: Weekly News Release - NCHSAA.org Posted October 29, 2010: Many coaches apparently want the State Indoor Meet for 2010-2011 to be held in a true indoor track facility -- in Virginia. The NCHSAA seems to be against having it out of state. Another option to having it outdoors as a Polar Bear meet would be to try to hold it at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. There are pros and cons. Info on ASU's track: 4 lanes, running through the basketball arena's concourse. (Not exactly spectator-friendly.) Photo: 55m hurdle race. Fairly fast for 1000m and longer events. (see photo). The track is octagonal. Photo of arena. Diagram of track. Field events are held on the arena floor. Runways for the LJ & PV are 114' long. (79' & 89' for TJ). Another photo. UNC Indoor Track Availability Posted October 15, 2010: Bill Cason reports: "We have been working in Greensboro since late July with warehouse owners, track manufacturers, sports commission people, politicians, potential sponsors and banks. Bottomline is $500,000 loan commitment from a bank or investor this month and Mondo USA builds a 200m banked board 6 lane oval with 8 lane sprint straight away. If you want indoor track meets in Greensboro now (01/01/11) find us an investor willing to front $500k and everyone races in Greensboro. More photos Posted September 18, 2010:
Background: It appears that there may be no NCHSAA State Indoor Championships for 2011. (The nearest indoor tracks are at Virginia Tech, Liberty, East Tennesee State, and Clemson.) --- Eric Morrell has asked that NCPrepTrack post the following request: "I wanted to let you know of a project I and other coaches are working on. North Carolina has no indoor track facility and our athletes of all ages are at a disadvantage to other locations who have facilties. We are working to put an indoor track and training facility in North Carolina. It will have a six lane 200 meter oval and an eight lane 78 meter straight away. All of the events would be on raised runways which would make this a very fast facility. We would be holding meets for all level of competition whch include youth, high school, collegiate, professional and Masters." "We are finalilizing aquiring the building and then going to build the track. We have aquired money to get the track built and renovate the building. We need some more start up money and are offering one year investment shares which will pay out 10% apr to people who want to invest. I have space for a health club and have the ideal to have world class athletes come to train while they help other train in a personal trainer capacity. This would help generate money for the athletes as they train in a great facility. They would also help run the track meets so the coaches can coach at the meets." "We are looking for people who want to help our project and these athletes. I am looking for athletes that want to have a place to train and make money at the same time. In the long run we are hoping the track and field community will come together to get better and help athletes have the opportunity to continue training and reach their fullest potential. We would like others in the state to join in to make this happen. Give this some thought and let people you feel it would benefit know about this project."
Thank you,
