Melissa Morrison (Kannapolis A.L. Brown HS) won three consecutive
state 4-A state championships in the 100-meter hurdles (1987-1989). She
also won the state championship in the triple jump (39-11.75) her senior year.
After running for Appalachian State University and obtaining a B.S. degree
in psychology, Morrison developed into a world-class hurdler. She won a bronze
medal in the 100m hurdles* (12.76) at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
Morrison also placed 5th in the 60m hurdles in the Indoor World
Championships (1999). She has been a four-time U.S. Indoor champion
('98, '99, '00, '02) and has won the U.S. Outdoor title once (1997).
She ran her fastest time (12.53) in 1998 and was ranked 3rd in the world for that year
