School's 3.1-mile course, and the conference consisted of 4 boys' teams: Ben Lippen (Asheville, before moving to Columbia, SC in 1988), Asheville School, Charlotte Country Day and Spartanburg Country Day (later became Spartanburg Day). The meet is believed to be the first private school conference cross country championship meet in North Carolina. The CAA pre-dated the formation of the NCISAA, making it the oldest, continuous conference in the NCISAA. -- The first girls' championship was held in 1993, scoring just 3 runners from each team: Carolina Day (6), Asheville School (21) and Greenville (SC) Shannon Forest (26). Asheville Christian also had a runner, but not a complete team. Conference history: *The first CAA Cross Country Championships were held in 1971, with Asheville Ben Lippen (33), Asheville School (41), Charlotte Country Day (50) and Spartanburg Country Day (144) making up the team scorers. The top-5 finishers were: Charles Snow, Charlotte Country Day (17:26); Don Mason, Ben Lippen (17:38); Bob Rayle, Asheville School (17:56), Mike Blanton, Ben Lippen (17:58) & Laurie Hill, Asheville School (18:03). *In 1973, Christ School joined the league to give the CAA five schools *In 1974, Spartanburg Country Day became Spartanburg Day *In 1975, Charlotte Country Day and Spartanburg Day left the CAA *In 1980, Asheville Country Day joined the CAA *In 1983, Patterson School in Lenoir, NC joined the CAA and Asheville Country Day left (either before the 1982 or 1983 season) *In 1985, Camden Military (S.C.) joined the CAA *After the 1987 season, Patterson School left the CAA *At the end of the 1987/1988 school year, Ben Lippen relocated from Asheville to Columbia, SC, but remained in the CAA to start the 1988/1989 school year. The fall of 1988 marked the first meet that Ben Lippen ran as a school located in South Carolina (a fire on Ben Lippen's campus had destroyed a main building in 1980 and the school moved to Columbia, SC, 8 years later, to the campus of Columbia Bible College, now Columbia International University). *Before the 1990 season, Ben Lippen left the CAA. *In 1990, Carolina Day and Spartanburg (S.C.) Day joined the CAA *In 1993, Shannon Forest (SC) and Asheville Christian joined the league. *In 1993, the CAA held its first girls' championship meet, scoring just 3 runners from each team. Carolina Day (6), Asheville School (21) and Greenville (SC) Shannon Forest (26). Asheville Christian also had a runner, but not a complete team. *In 1995, Southside Christian (Simpsonville, SC) joined the CAA. *After the 1998 season, Camden Military (SC) and Southside Christian (SC) left the CAA, and the CAA consisted of: Asheville Christian, Asheville School, Carolina Day, Christ School, Shannon Forest (SC) and Spartanburg Day (SC). *Longtime member Christ School left the CAA before the beginning of the 2004-05 season and joined the PACIS. *Rabun Gap (GA) joined the CAA at the beginning of the 2004-05 season, and the CAA consisted of: Asheville Christian, Asheville School, Carolina Day, Rabun Gap (GA), Shannon Forest (SC) and Spartanburg Day (SC). *In 2007, Christ School returned to the CAA. *Spartanburg Day left the CAA after the 2010-11 school year, and the CAA consisted of: Asheville Christian, Asheville School, Christ School, Carolina Day, Rabun Gap (GA) and Shannon Forest (SC). *Shannon Forest (SC) left the CAA after the 2014-15 school year, and the CAA consisted of: Asheville Christian, Asheville School, Carolina Day, Christ School and Rabun Gap (GA).
