Former Hickory HS/NC State star Ryan Hill is now a volunteer assistant coach for the NC State men's track & field and cross country programs.

Former Kings Mountain HS ('99)/NC State runner Chad Pearson has been named track & field/cross country Assistant Coach for NC State. Pearson was 2nd in both the 1600 (4:25.93) and 3200 (9:43.55) at the 1999 NCHSAA 3A State Meet as a senior. A year earlier he was 2nd in the 3200 (9:50.0). He was 2nd in the 1997 3A State Cross Country Meet (16:10.0).
The NC State Women's Cross Country team is currently ranked 2nd in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll (Preseason).

At the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships in College Station, Texas Tamara Clark (High Point Central HS/Alabama) ran an incredible 200 time of 21.89w (+4.1), which is the fastest all-conditions 200 meters in NCAA history.
Clark also won the 100 in 10.87w (+2.7), which is the 5th-fastest all-conditions 100 in collegiate history.

At the ACC Championships in Raleigh 5/13-15 junior Ian Shanklin (Greensboro Page HS/NC State) won the 10,000 meters in 29:11.28.
Elly Henes (Cary Green Hope HS/NC State) won the 5000 in a Meet Record 15:34.69. She also placed 3rd in the 1500 with a PR and School Record 4:10.23.
Sophomore Akira Rhodes (Charlotte Mallard Creek HS/NC State) ran a PR in the 100H of 13.06 (+0.3) to place 2nd. The time is the 4th-fastest in NC State history.
Sophomore Joshua Brockman (Charlotte Ardrey Kell HS/NC State) was 5th in the 110H in 13.91 (+0.1). Earlier in his heat he ran 13.85 (-1.2).
Jada Griffin (Spring Lake Overhills HS/NC State) anchored State's 4x100 to a 7th place finish in a time of 45.63. It is the 6th-fastest time in NC State history.
Cravont Charleston (Charlotte Mallard Creek HS/NC State) had the fastest time in the 200 prelims -- 20.51 (+0.6), but did not compete in the final.

Gabrielle Cunningham (Charlotte Mallard Creek HS/NC State/Nike) was 9th in 13.56. Earlier in the heats, Harrison had a 12.53 (+1.4) and Cunningham 12.85 (+0.9).

Cambrea Sturgis (Kannapolis A.L. Brown HS/NC A&T) was named NCAA Division I Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association).
Sturgis won the 100 (11.03w +3.1), 200 (22.88 +0.9) and led off the 1st-place 4x100 relay at the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Greensboro to score 22.5 points, as the Aggies rolled to the crown with 290 points.

At the USC-UCLA Dual Meet in Westwood, California, Anna Cockrell (Charlotte Providence Day/University of Southern California) won the 400mH in 55.59 and became the College Leader in the event. Cockrell also won the 100mH in 12.79 (+1.5).
Freshman Morgan Smalls (Cary Panther Creek HS/Southern Cal) won the Long Jump with a PR of 21-0.75/6.42m (+0.8). That jump moved her into a fifth-place tie on USC's all-time list. Smalls also placed 2nd in both the High Jump (5-10.75/1.80) and the Triple Jump (42-8/13.00).

Several former North Carolina high school stars had fine performances April 10th at the Miramar Invitational in Florida.
Keni Harrison (Clayton HS/University of Kentucky) won her heat in the 100m Hurdles in a World Leading time of 12.54 (+2.0). She later won the final in a wind-aided 12.38 (+2.7).
Gabrielle Cunningham (Charlotte Mallard Creek HS/NC State/Nike) was 5th in 12.77w. Cunningham earlier had a 12.93 (+3.6) in her heat.
Quanera Hayes (Gray's Creek HS/Livingstone College) was 2nd in the 400 to become the 2nd woman in the world under 50 seconds this year. Hayes' 49.92 was 0.01 behind Shamier Little's World Leading time of 49.91.
Sha'keela Saunders (Fayetteville E.E. Smith HS/University of Kentucky/adidas) was 2nd in the Long Jump, 21-6.75w (6.57) (20-11.25/6.38).

Tim Hall has been promoted to associate head coach of the Kentucky men's and women's track and field teams, head coach Lonnie Greene announced Wednesday.
Hall ran for Charlotte Garinger HS where he was 1988 NCHSAA Indoor Champion in the 1000-yard Run (914.4-meters). That spring he placed 3rd in the 800m (1:55:66) in the NCHSAA 4-A Championships. Hall's coaching stops include Myers Park HS, the Queen City Striders Track Club, UNC-Charlotte, Clemson, Tennessee, and the University of Kentucky.

Tamara Clark (High Point Central HS/Alabama) won the 200 in 22.50 (+2.0) to become this year's NCAA outdoor leader. Clark placed 2nd in the 100 with a 11.12 (+2.0), and ran the 2nd leg on Alabama's 4th-place 4x100 (44.39).

On the first day of the ACC Indoor Championships at Clemson, SC, Kyle Durham (Weddington HS/NC State) improved his own school record in the 800 prelims with a 1:50.46. Durham finished just shy of qualifying for the finals with the seventh-fastest time
In the Women's DMR, Elly Henes (Cary Green Hope HS/NC State) and Anna Vess (Asheville A.C. Reynolds HS/NC State) contributed legs on their 11:07.64 effort, which set a new school record.
On Saturday's final day, Henes earned the 2nd Women's 3000m ACC title of her career, running a blistering 9:00.53 that was a PR, a School Record, a Meet Record, and a facility record.
Chris Alexander (Mint Hill Rocky River HS/NC State) placed 3rd in the Men's Triple Jump with 51'5.75" (15.69m).
Michelle Cobb (Asheville T.C. Roberson HS/NC State) was 3rd in the Women's TJ with 42'10.75" (13.07m).
Joshua Brockman (Charlotte Ardrey Kell HS/NC State) placed 3rd in the 60m Hurdles with a 7.81 PR, 2nd-Best in NC State history.

Sophomore Randolph Ross (Garner HS/NC A&T), mentioned below in a Feb. 7th post, ran a personal-best 45.21 to win the 400m on the first day of the Tiger Paw Invitational at the University of Clemson's Rock Norman Track and Field Complex.
His time is tied for the 13th-fastest 400m indoor time by a collegiate competitor in NCAA history. His performance also makes him the No. 1 400m runner in the country.

Randolph Ross (Garner HS/NC A&T) won the 400 (45.79) and also ran on the winning A&T 4x400 (45.87 split) to an NCAA-leading time of 3:04.76 at the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia. Ross also placed 2nd in the 200 (20.64 PR). He now ranks 6th nationally in the 400.
