Results were faded (old mimeographed blue ink) on yellowed 8 1/2 by 11" paper, difficult to read, so some misspellings and typos are possibly above.
Where times differed between the official results sheets, and newspaper results, I went with the official sheets (although difficult to read, even using a magnifying glass).
The Girls' Pole Vault was not added as an event until 1999.

Eckerd, LeBlanc Set Queen City MarksBy Mike Cearley, Special Correspondent There were more raindrops than records falling Saturday at the 29th annual Queen City Relays. Two meet records were set aand another was tied as nearly 900 competitors (the largest field ever) from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee met at the Myers Park High track. The meet started at 9 a.m under warm and sunny skies. But by mid-afternoon, during the girls' distance medley relays, steady rains began, sending participants, coaches and fans running for cover. After two lengthy rain delays, the final event was run in sunshine. South Mecklenburg's Teri LeBlanc and Hickory's Tommy Eckerd are the two new record-holders. Each received outstanding participant awards. LeBlanc, who won four events, captured the 100-meter race in an official time of 11.8. That was a tenth of a second better than the old mark set by Robin Cremedy of East Forsyth in 1981. LeBlanc was actually clocked at 11.72, but any fraction over a tenth of a second goes on record at the next highest tenth. Eckerd set two records, breaking one of his own. His toss of 62 feet 9 1/2 inches in the shot put bettered his mark of 58-4 last season. He won the discus with a throw of 166-0, surpassing the eight-year-old mark of 164-11, set by Garinger's Stan Cunningham. Bobby Hill of Dobyns-Bennett High (Kingsport, Tenn.) won the long jump, tying the meet record of 23-9.5, the high jump and 100-meter run. LeBlanc also won the high jump with a leap of 5-6 1/2 and was instrumental in South's relay victories in the shuttle hurdles and sprint medley. "I am real pleased with my time in the 100," said LeBlanc, a senior who will attend Missouri. "I was going for an 11.8 (her personal best) or an 11.7. The record is what I really wanted and I am very happy that I got it." There were no team scores kept in the event. If there had been, South Mecklenburg's girls' team would have done well. The Sabres took five first places and finished in the top six in four other events. Athletes from Independence also made a good showing. Patrina Massey captured the triple jump for the Patriots and ran the third leg on the victorious 800-meter relay team. Independence also won the 1600- meter relay and placed in five other events. Garinger's John Givens was a winner in two boys' events, taking the 300-meter hurdles and running a leg on Garinger's victorious 800 relay team. Garinger also won the sprint medley relay. Independence had winners in two boys' events -- the 400 and 1600 relays. Host Myers Park placed first in the boys' shuttle hurdle relay and Shawn Collins won the pole vault for the Mustangs.
