Sophomore Jack Bolas (Chapel Hill) and senior Alex Ray (Northwest
Guilford) sprint for the finish. Bolas was 4th (16:23) and Ray 5th (16:24)
Chapel Hill and South View's #2 and 3 runners battle for the state title.
From left to right are, Chapel Hill's Ryan Workman and Duncan Hoge, and
South View's Jason Williams and Paul Longoria. Williams was 7th, Hoge 8th,
Workman 10th, Longoria 11th. All finished between 16:26 and 16:31.
Workman and Hoge are sophomores and the other two seniors.
In the 4-A girls race, April Rowlan and Caroline Johnson,
the #3 and #4 runners for Providence HS are caught in almost perfect
synchronous stride. Providence won the championship by 28 points.
Weddington sophomore Heather Goldstein led her team to the
state 3-A title with a 2nd place finish (20:15). This was the 2nd
year in a row Goldstein has been 2nd to a T.C. Roberson runner.
Sophomore Jennifer Jones placed 2nd (20:41) in
the 2-A girls race. This race had 6 sophomores
and 1 freshman in the top 7.
Sophomore Nick Shilly (East Davidson) leads his team
to the 2-A boys title with a 2nd place finish ahead of
Javier Acosta (North Henderson). Shilly was 2nd (17:05)
with Acosta 3rd (17:06).
Summer Graham (Princeton) was 2nd in the 1-A girls race in 20:05. Graham was also 2nd in 2002.
