(Sacramento, CA) Hannah Hensley, the outstanding rising sophomore from Pinecrest High School has turned in the stellar performance at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in the Intermediate Girls Heptathlon. The grueling seven event challenge is contested over two day. Hannah was able to amass an impressive 4725 points to easily outdistance the second place finisher.
One mark that clearly stands out in the two day competition is a massive high jump of 5'8" which is worth a hefty 916 points. No other competitor scored more than 800 points in a single event. Hannah's road to her first national title was cleared because of her jumping ability. She also produced an impressive long jump of 5.28 meters (17' 3.87"). She has jump further but few in her age group can come close to that mark.
Five athletes are in Sacramento representing the Sandhills Track Club, They are Eric Upchurch (Harnett Central), DJ Shaw (Red Springs), John Minnot (Union Pines), Hannah Hensley (Pinecrest) and Peter Deucher (Vass, NC). To get updates about the competition at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics, visit http://www.usatf.org/events/2010/USATFJuniorOlympicTFChampionships/ .
Peter Deucher set a personal best mark in the 2000 meter steeplechase on Tuesday. His time of 6:36.73 earned him 14th place in a field of 26 runners. Luckily for the Sandhills Track Club Peter is eligible to return to the Championship next year and vie for the title.
In tomorrow's action, John Minnot and DJ Shaw contest the triple jump. Eric Upchurch is set to compete in the shot put. Also on Thursday, Hannah Hensley has one more shot at gold in the high jump. An event where she should be one of the favorites.
The Sandhills Track Club has been a part of the community for over 30 years. it provides opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to compete. For more information visit http://sandhillstrackclub.webs.com/

Tell your athletes, parents and coaches that one of the best track meets in the USA will be at NC A&T on May 29. LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina, Michigan, Kentucky, UNC, DUKE, Indiana and every other D1 college East of the Mississippi will be at one meet in Greensboro.
This will be one of the greatest displays of track talent you will see and for a very cheap price. $10 for adults and $7 for kids. Olympians, NCAA Champions and world class athletes will all have to run on May 27-29 in order to make the National Championships.

Another, improved facility for indoor track, perhaps near Greensboro or Charlotte(?),
is a nice dream of many of us, but not likely to appear during the current
economic times -- unless a major donor or sponsor (or two) decides they want to
step forward and help to create one.
I recently stumbled across an old photo of UNC's indoor track, in their original
"Tin Can" facility (40-years ago and two "Tin Can" versions back). During the
late 60s there was only one indoor meet for NC high school athletes every
winter. I competed there just once, my senior year in the Mile.
This photo brings back old memories, and
shows that things have gotten better, although there is still room for
improvement toward providing the high school student-athletes of this state a
top-quality and spectator-friendly facility for the sport of Indoor Track.

RunInCollege.com features a searchable database of every NCAA track & field conference championship in Division I, II and III. The database includes 76 conference championships and more than 45,000 individual men's and women's performances.
The database covers all 19 individual running and field events (the database can also be reached through
ThrowInCollege.com and JumpInCollege.com.)
The website, designed by Rhode-Island based technology company Brave River Solutions, allows high school athletes to see how their performances compare to college athletes. High school athletes can see where they rank among all college competitors in any individual event and can see how they would have finished in every conference championship in the country.
"There are plenty of places you can go to look up the academic requirements of a college," explains founder Steve Turgeon, who has coached high school track & field in Rhode Island for five years. "But what about track & field? What does it take to run in college? We think
RunInCollege.com will go a long way in answering that question for a lot of athletes."

We all know that this state badly needs another venue besides UNC's where indoor
