The Western North Carolina Activities Association did not merge into the NCHSAA until 1977. There were about 40 schools
that would hold their own championships in each sport. They were often refered to as "the Western Association". We have
event winners from 1951-1977, but are missing most of the team winners. The track meet began in 1951. The
1977 meet was the only year the girls held a track championship. Please email us at
(Email info) if you can contribute results, photos, news, etc about the WNCHSAA championships.Team Champions - Boys1977 Davie County 1976 Salisbury 1975 Davie County 1974 Davie County 1973 Shelby 1972 Salisbury 1971 Salisbury 1970 Salisbury 1969 Davie County 1968 Kannapolis 1967 North Rowan 1966 North Rowan results 1965 North Rowan 1964 Hickory 1963 Shelby 1962 Hickory 1961 Kannapolis 1960 Statesville 2012 Photo 1959 Statesville Photo 2012 Photo 1958 Shelby 1957 Statesville 1956 Lenoir 1955 Wilkes Central 1954 Shelby 1953 Shelby 1952 N.C. Groups prior to the WNCHSAA: The Western Piedmont High School Athletic Association (WPHSAA) was formed in 1923 for the following high schools: Hickory, Lenoir, Lincolngton, Morganton and Marion and that track was a sponsored sport and that they planned on having a conference meet that year.
