The State Cross Country Meet included all classifications in 1967.
Cross Country was not recognized by the NCHSAA as a girls sport until 1980.
Charlotte Myers Park's boys put five in the top 16 to win easily.
The first sophomore across the line was Steve Grathwohl (Charlotte Independence). Grathwohl won the following year (1968).
Another sophomore, 23rd, was Ben Bailey (Enka HS). Bailey won this meet his senior year (1969).
Another bit of trivia... Sophomore George Phillips (Winston-Salem RJ Reynolds), was 18th.
