The High Point Andrews boys captured their third straight Class 3-A state
track championship.

In the triple jump North Rowan placed three in the top four as junior
Brian Ellis broke the 3-A meet record with a 50-2.25 performance. The old
record was 48-10 by Bryan Jenkins (N.E. Guilford) set the previous year.

Shawn Miller (Salisbury) cleared 6-8.25 to better the 6-8 meet record set
by Andrews' Mike Neely in 1987.

Alice Vinson (Sun Valley) set two new meet records. She smashed the meet record
in the 100 with a 12.03. The old record was 12.20 by Vinson in 1989.
Vinson also ran 24.81 to break the old record of 24.95, by Jan Harrison of
High Point Andrews in 1986.

High Point Andrews crushed the 4x200 record with a 1:43.49. The old record
was 1:44.04 by Tarboro in 1989.

The first three placers in the long jump broke the old meet record.
Tenisha Pinnix (Andrews) won with a leap of 18-10. The old record, 18-2.5 was
set in 1989 by Tasha Horton (Lenoir Hibriten) -- who placed third this
year. Alice Vinson also broke the old record.
