Prior to 1983 the meet was known as the "Coaches" Invitational. Before 1980 it was run at Davidson College, which had a comparatively difficult course. 1978 was the first year the course was 5,000 meters. Note: Before 1992 the Invitational Race was for some years called the Championship Race, and the current Open division was called the "Invitational" or "High School" Race. And for some years for which I do not have official result sheets but found newspaper clippings, the reporter seemed to confuse the names of the races. I have have attempted to organize the divisions and history correctly above. 1991 data was fetched from a brief newspaper item that may have contained some inaccurate names and/or data. For some of the years, an "Individual Race" was run where no team scores were kept and JV runners competed and runners not on teams participated. Those winners will be added to this page later.
